Fifth Grade

Fifth Grade Teachers

David De Vore
I come from a family of teachers (Father, Mother, Sister, etc.).  I guess it is in the blood.  I have been teaching at Torrey Pines for 26 years in fifth grade.  Before that I taught second grade for one year at Loma Portal.  I also taught English for a year and half in Japan prior to that.  I really enjoy creating curriculum and begin creative to bring fun and engagement to my class.  I think kids learn better when things are fun and presented in an active atmosphere.  Moments I also really enjoy are those when older students come back and visit to share all their successes. When I am not teaching, I am either spending time with my family, walking my dogs, or surfing.

Being a teacher at Torrey Pines means being committed to meeting the needs of students through continual reflection, collaboration, problem -solving and team work. It means being committed to: continuous improvement and refinement of practice. It means being open, honest and kind.

I am so excited to be at TPES! I have been teaching and providing professional development for teachers and administrators for 20 years. Being in the classroom with my students is such a highlight. I feel so fortunate to get to call this work! When I’m not teaching, I love running, traveling and spending time with my family and friends.
